A Homespun Affair Design Team Announcement!!

Photobucket

Hello everyone, Do I have some fantastic news to share with you today!  As I have been hinting around at the last few weeks, a group of fantastic friends and I have gotten together to create an E-Magazine, A Homespun Affair, for our readers enjoyment! It has been QUITE the undertaking, I must say! However, it has been worth every bump and minute of lost sleep! I can honestly say that these last few weeks I have funded my Starbucks Baristas College Fund!!

I wanted to announce the ladies that have been supporting my craziness and giving me love and support. These ladies have been SO AMAZING to work with, and I feel so fortunate to be announcing this group as part of my team!

Here they are in no particular order! Please, take the time to visit their blogs and leave them some love! They truly are amazing women, with amazing creativity, and most important to me, they have Amazing hearts.

PinkByDesign Stamps and CAMEO Giveaway!

Happy Monday Everyone!
Click Pics for enlargement

It's been a bit since I've displayed one of my projects!! ;0) But well worth it to get the information out to everyone! Today, though I do want to show a card I made using Pink Cricut's Pink By Design Stamps! The stamp set is called Rise Above it All! Isn't the sentiment awesome! All of Sarah's Stamps ROCK! They are so uplifting and fitting for any card, project or occasion!!

This particular Sentiment went perfect with this High Heel cut from the Summer in Paris Cricut Cartridge!

I used gel inks for the top layer of the shoe. First you do the layer feature with the Gel Pens loaded, and keeping your mat in the machine, run the cut. I embellished with a Tim Holt's Mini Rosette Die and Tag compliments of Miss Sarah Hamer and some of my beloved Resins!

Inside of Card

Sarah is also giving away a Cameo!!! Yes that's right!! Click picture to find out details!!

Helping Hands - Sheffield Place

“Children are the world’s most valuable resource and its hope for the best future”. Our children are not only the best hope for their family but also our community."

~John F. Kennedy
Good Morning My Friends!! Do I have some exciting news to share!!

As you may already know, the families of Sheffield's Place were the recipients of the Easter Baskets earlier this month. Well, next week, myself and Olivia Beashore, my lovely and giving young friend (She is a 17 year old College Student, forgot to mention SMART), and Katrina Pickens, my sweet friend and Mary Kay, independent Consultant, as well as Natasha Brooke, another dear friend and my Thirty-One consultant are heading over for a tour with the Director, Davick Hanzlick of Sheffield Place.  I am both very excited and a little weepy over this! I know that with the help of all of my lovely friends that we can help these mommies succeed and show them the love and support that they so desperately need. They have already been so blessed by getting into Sheffield Place. Sadly, there is a waiting list, and at times, mommies and their kiddos are turned away due to space constrictions.

What I would love for my crafty friends to help with is this! Can you make ONE CARD for Mother's Day to go to these Mommies? There are 15 in the facility, and about 35 that have been able to move out on their own with their kiddos after successfully completing the program (average 2 years). That is 50 cards!! Please mail them to:

Sheffield Place

Please take the time to learn more about this fabulous organization!! It only takes a few seconds, but will leave an impression on your heart for a lifetime!! http://cdn.trustedpartner.com/docs/library/SheffieldPlace2010/news/Spring_Newsletter_2012.pdf

Learn more about the mission and programs at Sheffield Place by taking a tour of the facility. Tours are offered to individuals and groups by appointment. This is Andreas Story:

Andrea grew up in Johnson County, Kansas. She never imagined that she would be the victim of physical abuse and eventual homelessness. Although Andrea’s parents divorced during her grade school years, joint custody allowed Andrea to maintain close relationships with both parents. When Andrea graduated from Shawnee Mission South, nothing in her life’s circumstances suggested that her adulthood would be anything but normal.

Shortly after graduating from high school, Andrea began dating a very charismatic guy, who promised her the world. Sure, he had some problems, but Andrea felt they could overcome those together. Nothing in Andrea’s world had introduced her to domestic violence. Little did she know that her husband’s constant ridicule would lead to physical abuse.

After the birth of her first child, the ridicule turned to violence. Andrea did everything within her power to make the relationship work. Maybe if she’d just said the right thing, worked harder, or made more money, everything would be okay. Unfortunately, she began to believe his negative messages. Andrea found herself in a cycle of violence that continued to spiral out of control. Violence, abuse and ridicule were now the norm.

Andrea had another child as a way to make things work in the relationship. During her third pregnancy the violence got so bad that Andrea had to seek help at a domestic violence shelter. In addition to safety, the shelter offered Andrea counseling and support. Before long, she began to feel better about herself and her life. Life was beginning to look much different.

Andrea knew that healing from trauma on the way to self-sufficiency would require hard work. She was accepted into Sheffield Place program. With the help of case management and therapeutic services at Sheffield Place, Andrea’s life circumstances have become more positive. Her boys benefited from their time at Sheffield Place. The Children’s Clinical Services program provided individual and group therapy. These services were especially important in helping the boys heal from their trauma and understand what healthy relationships look like.

Andrea gave birth to her third son while at Sheffield Place. Although two of her children had serious medical problems, she continued to work diligently to become self-sufficiency. Between numerous pediatric appointments, Andrea has managed to apply for college and financial aid. She began attending Penn Valley Community College full-time. Andrea also took leadership roles in the Sheffield Place community.

Andrea is a new woman! She set higher standards for relationships and higher expectations for herself. Andrea’s long-term goals include owning her home. Two years ago, survival was her focus. Today Andrea and her sons are thriving as a result of the services they received at Sheffield Place

Party Decor Blog Hop

I have always dreamed of using the colors Black, White and Tiffany Blue! So my projects were inspired by that!

Cricut Cartridges Used :

Tie the Knot
Art Philosophy

(Please click on pictures if you would like to zoom the images)

For the guests wedding favors I used the Tie the knot cartridge @ fit to page and added the layer for the "tiffany" blue ruffles. This favor is SO easy to put together, it does not require a lot of scoring, which I love! I made 100 wedding favors for my sister last year (in California, mind you - so they went on the plane with me!)  They were the boxes from TBBM1 and they have SO many score lines, and then had to cuttlebug them all twice! YIKES!

I embellished the top with flat back pearls and tear drop grey rhinestones, and some GORGEOUS Ribbons in black and white with tiny rose buds. I also placed the flat back pearls throughout the wedding dress skirt. On the back, I wrapped the black garter around and used a large flat back pearl as the top button and the three smaller ones down the train of the gown. These were cut with heat where they need to open so that they wouldn't fray, but would stay together. That was a little tricky :)

I hope that you LOVE these party favors as much as I do!! For my dream wedding they will be filled with Godiva White Chocolates which are my favs!!! ;)

I also made a Coordinating Hair Embellishment, that matches the silk flowers in the Bridal Bouquet below.

For my next project I made a Bridal Bouquet - I used the Art Philosophy Cartridge and cut out the 3-D flowers from page 70 (both at 2.75) in Grey, Tiffany Blue, White and another paper with greys and pinks. On the White card stock I used a stamp with calligraphy words and stamped in both black and Tiffany blue on both sides.

I used a 5 inch Styrofoam ball for Floral Design, and a box of Floral pins with pearl heads. This project took 114 Flowers at this size! I also used some Silk flowers at the base to embellish, as well as floral stem balls at the base, and throughout the Bouquet. This was also great to hide places where the Styrofoam was peaking through!!

Thank you so much for stopping by and taking a look at my projects!! I had a great time making them, and I hope that I have inspired some craftiness in someone today!!
