Melissa has asked that we share our story of the woman in our lives that has touched us deeply. While I have many women in my life that have been there for me while I've hurt, cried, loved and laughed, my post today goes out to a group of women that I have hardly met. They are the Mommies of Sheffield's Place, in Kansas City. These women have had very difficult upbringings, that most of us could never imagine, yet they have fought to have a place in Sheffields Place {by fought, I mean that thye must be clean and sober for at least 30 days for admittance, and also, the waiting list to get into Sheffields Place due to capacity limits, are extraordinarily long!}

Most of these Women lived on the streets, some with their kiddos, some had their children placed in families homes, or in Social Services or Foster care. Their kiddos now reside with them in Sheffields Place. These mom's must be employed, actively seeking employment, or a Full Time student, which some are presently taking RN courses!! They and their chilren are in counseling services at least once a week, and one benefit Sheffields Place gives these Mother's is basically an interaction course with their kids. Think about it, they {the mother's} were raised in homes that were physically, mentally, and sexually abusive homes, not to mention the drug/alcohol use! What Sheffield's Place does to break this cycle is counseling and teaching the Mother's literally how to be Mother's! They have a room for the mother and chil{ren} to go into to play and talk, and the mom's have earpeices in with microphones. They interact with their children behind a two way mirror, and the counselors observe, and provide advice to the Mother's on how to interact with their children. How is THAT for breaking the cycle?!

Once the Mother's have "completed" their stay at Sheffields Place, they move into their own dwelling with the kiddos, and a counselor stops in to check on them every couple of weeks to see how they are doing. I think it is wonderful that they provide continued support to these Mother's! A normal stay at Sheffield Place is usually about 2 years until the Mother is able to leave.

Now, I know that someimes it is difficult to see past the "choices" that some made to put them in the positions which they find themselves, and I have to say, I feel this way at times also. However, after hearing the stories of their upbringings, all of that doubt is LOST. These Women were victims of horrendous circumstances, and are fighting for their lives, and the lives of their children. That is why I chose them to feature for this hop. I hope that you will all take the time out to read or watch some of their stories provided below!!

I have also begun a Back-to-School Back pack drive for the Kiddos residing at Sheffield Place. If you are interested in participating, please join our Crafting for a Cause Facebook Group.

You can send any items directly to Sheffields place, and gift cards to Office Max, Staples, Wal-mart and Office Depot are also most welcome! If you would prefer to do and ship individual items, items needed include: Back-packs, Crayons, Colored Pencils, Pens, Markers, Pencil Cases, Binders, Spiral notepads, Paper, Glue, Kleenex, Rulers, Erasers, Pencil Sharpeners, lunchsacks, etc. Please mail all items to:

Please take the time to learn more about this fabulous organization!! It only takes a few seconds, but will leave an impression on your heart for a lifetime!!

Now, on to my project!

I created a Goody Purse from the Bride's to Be Cricut Event Cartridge - cut at Fit to Page
I Cut a Strip for the handle, and embellished with a beautiful crotcheted Ribbon and a sentiment Ribbon A Mother's Love. I also used flatback pearls on the Ribbon to showcase the sentiment.

On the Flap of the Purse I used Tim Holtz alterations rosettes with a resin

The card is a Beautiful Sizzix tri-fold Die Cut. I found these darling Chipboard birds in the dollar section of Joanns. I used the same Sentiment ribbon and a black ribbon at the top and the same Resin from Zacoo. On the inside, I cut a blue paper with birds for the writing, and I used abother Bird form the dollar bin. I wish I had gotten more of these, as I LOVE them!!

I hope that you like the way that they turned out! I SURE do!!

What a wonderful tribute Jessica! We have a similar place here in Cincinnati which my daughter worked at during her time in college. She is now a social worker and works daily with substance abuse parents in helping them to get the treatment they need to keep their children. They are not bad people, just people who need help and guidance most times. Awesome post and I love your project! Super cute!

This sounds like such an amazing place for both the mothers and the children. It is so important to have places like this to help people "learn" what they were not fortunate enough to experience in their own lives when they were young. Thanks for sharing such an inspirational story. Your card and purse are both stunning projects and are sure to be loved and appreciated!!!
